Keeping a cool head in high stress environments is all in a day’s work for Melbourne & Olympic Parks’ event manager, Nicola Drummy who last night took out the Venue Management Association’s Young Achiever Award. An Event Project Manager at Hisense Arena, Nicola is responsible for carefully planning and running all kinds of events for the enjoyment of the people of Victoria, including netball, basketball, concerts, and of course, the Australian Open.
Melbourne & Olympic Parks CEO, Brian Morris said Nicola had a particularly successful year, with the closure of Rod Laver Arena for redevelopment works creating an even busier calendar of events at Hisense Arena.
“This year has been extraordinary for Hisense Arena; we’ve seen everything from Professional Bull Riding, Disney on Ice and World Series of Darts to cycling, netball, tennis, basketball and an exciting series of concerts, including three recent sold-out shows by The Killers,” Mr Morris said.
“Nicola’s can-do attitude and professionalism has been an asset in managing the complexity of delivering vastly different events for the people of Victoria.
“She is an extremely capable and committed member of our team and we are delighted that she has been recognised as a stand-out venue professional among her peers,” Mr Morris said.
The VMA Awards are an annual program which celebrate the best venue management people across Asia Pacific. The program is made up of three categories, including Venue Professional of the Year, Young Achiever of the Year and Allied Professional of the Year.
Mr Morris also acknowledged Rod Laver Arena General Manager, Meg Walker who was a finalist in the Venue Professional of the Year category.
“These awards are an acknowledgement of the expertise and capability of the venue management team at Melbourne & Olympic Parks,” Mr Morris.
“We have an incredible privilege of running arguably the best sport and event precinct in the world, matched with a team of professionals who are the best in the business,” he said.
